My Private Franciscan Moment of Awe!

I saw the most amazing blessing this evening on an oak out behind our condo:  A newly ‘hatched’ cicada  had just broken from his brown crusty shell.  The grand creature started out a pale creamy white color with his wet wings wrapped tightly around his body.  As the air dried him, he flexed and stretched and began to move his great wings.  His body color turned a beautiful aqua-marine blue and his wings became the color of the most beautiful blue-green ocean.  Finally, his wings out straight and dry the late day sun showing through his vascular fluttering  wings as they began to stretch and flap.  His eye’s large and the darkest brown and seeming to take in everything around him, including me; as much amazed at my staring and watching him; as I was while trying to take in this holy moment.  Not knowing much about cicada-culture, I assume that he will not live long on earth; based on what I know of other insects.  But, he did not wallow in how short life is nor what he may be missing or not getting to do or have.  He was content, just being cicada…  A great lesson!    But, I was blessed to share the first few minute of his new existence and thanked GOD for life; all life!   I do not know how anyone could witness such a beautiful and awesome unfolding of life and not know that the Holy hand of GOD was completely behind it.  Each vein, each color of this grand creature’s being was knit together by a loving GOD who blessed me with the opportunity to witness His hand at work.
Thanking GOD for all life this evening...  Count your blessings, hug your pets and give those you love a holy kiss!
